Life During Lockdown

From Judy Harmer:

"Rained-off today, so I baked a ‘Plum Bread’, (will go nicely with the Baileys!)

Nick said 'Will we need a saw to cut it ?'”

Something for a wet afternoon!

From John Patterson:

"I have been on bike rides in the lockdown, the best bike rides I have ever been on, brilliant weather and almost deserted roads. I don’t take many pics and sometimes the lens of my mobile phone gets steamed up in my pocket, but here is my latest batch."

From Steve Lee:

"As you might expect I have done several walks on Whitbarrow during lockdown. I've only got two pictures for you this time - with a bit of natural history."

I know of five species of orchid that grow in the Witherslack area. The Early Purple orchid is the most common, and its vibrant clour is easily spotted amongst the parched grass on Whitbarrow. This is a particularly fine specimen.

A (split) erratic boulder. Whitbarrow is of course limestone dating from the Carboniferous era, but this boulder is of Silurian rock. It was transported here by a glacier during the last Ice Age. The lakeland fells south of Coniston and Ambleside are mostly Silurian rock, as are the Howgills.
