Sunday Fell Walking
There is a private Coach every week from Barrow, calling at Dalton, Ulverston and other points if required.
Departs Barrow 08:30 or 09:00 depending on the destination.
A Party – Challenging walks over several higher mountain peaks, typically 10 to 15 miles with ascents of 3000 to 5000 feet. These walks suit those wanting to walk at a steady pace with few stops.
B Party – Moderate walks over some high mountain peaks, typically 8 to 14 miles with total ascents of 2000 to 3500 feet. These walks suit those wanting to walk at a moderate pace with frequent stops for a "breather".
C Party – Typically 7 to 10 miles through valleys and over lower mountains slopes with total ascents generally less than 1200 feet. These walks suit those wanting to walk at a leisurely pace.
In winter, distances are at the lower end of the ranges given owing to shorter daylight hours.
The use of the coach allows linear walks, sometimes ending in a different valley.
There is always time for a refreshing drink and a bit of socialising in a pub or cafe before departing on the homeward journey.
For your first walk with the Club, you should take care to select the grade of walk that suits your experience, ability and fitness. If in doubt, select an easier walk; if you go on a walk that is too much for you, you won't enjoy it and you may spoil the day for the rest of the party. You can always go on a harder one at a later date once you are more familiar with what we do.
